Japanese-born designer Takahiro Miyashita first ventured to the United States at 16 where he fell in love with Americana. Having been kicked out of school, Miyashita spent most of his time on the streets of Shibuya and Harajuku- Tokyo’s epicentres of teenage street style. Having spent his youth rearranging and customising clothes, he began travelling regularly to the US to research clothing styles in Austin, Texas and Portland, Oregon. Combining his love of rock ‘n roll and American youth culture, he began his clothing line NUMBER (N)INE in 1997 , creating unconventional staple pieces with unique modifications and sharp asymmetrical cutwork. His iconic cinematic sensibility and potent vision heralded his designs and renowned label as one of the leading brands of Japan.
With an innate understanding of global street style and heavily influenced by youth subcultures, NUMBER (N)INE produced directional pieces that adhered to no rules; against current-thinking and fashion trends. The LN-CC collection features works across the best ten years of the brand’s life before its closure in 2009. Highlights of the selection include pieces from NUMBER (N)INE’s ‘STANDARD’ AW02 , ‘Love,God, Murder’ AW07 and ‘My Own Private Portland’ SS08 collections with painted jeans, relaxed pants, loose thread knits and 18th century inspired tailored jackets. With a laudable reputation for quality and unparalleled design aesthetic, NUMBER (N)INE’s works continue to resonate within the minds of all.
